Note: a short break will take place between sessions, and time is allowed for personal questions with Rinpoche to clarify issues participants might have regarding these meditations and Sadhana practises

The 10.00 am meditation session is open to all those interested in meditation:

The content of this session is directly based on the historical Nagarjuna and Shantideva meditation methods, as they were practiced and taught by these great classical masters in that time period (see website for further details). These techniques are presented in a non sectarian and non denominational format, so all individuals can participate and benefit. These specific meditation methods might initially appear different from the more commonly known "calm abiding" style techniques as they are frequently taught today, but the historical approach is a very effective direct method aimed at calming and purifying mental activity.

Sadhana practice is intended for those who have received the appropriate practice initations and empowerments:

The "sadhana practices" should be distinguished from "the Pujas" (such as Green Tara, Sixteen Arhat and others) which are public events that do not require an initiation. At Jamchen Buddhist Centre the Puja's such as Green Tara Puja are conducted on full moon days, and the Sixteen Arhat Puja can be conducted on holy days in the Buddhist calendar.

On some occasions people might be able to sit in on a sadhana practice (but without specifically "reading the sadhana"). this might be for example in order for that person to create a connection with a specific deity, and then be able to recite the mantra as part of their personal meditation practise (but this would need to be discussed their teacher in advance).

Sunday Calm Abiding Practice

Event time: either at 5.00pm (daylight saving) or 3.00pm (standard time)

note; please only attend by prior arrangement

Calm Abiding practice is not strictly Buddhist and does not require a prior "initiation". Anyone who has received some basic training and instruction is free to attend our weekly sitting practice on Sundays. These Sunday sessions are open to anyone with an interest in meditation, and these sessions  are intended as a support mechanism for those who want to participate with others, or simply might be seeking some additional guidance. No formal requirements are necessary to take part, but please contact the centre prior to attending.

A structured Introductory Calm Abiding course (which is based on eight weekly classes) is run several times each year by the centre, and this provides newcomers with the instruction and techniques to practice this type of meditation. Additionally regular yearly retreats are also conducted at an appropriate venue where people can develop more advanced skills in a supportive environment with the right facilities.

Cost: 5$ donation: this token donation helps to contribute to the centre running costs
